it's inspiring and sad ;^;

Well today we went Christmas shopping at the mall. There were lots of people there, and we met up with Xoli, Jessica, Hayden, and Riley. It was so much fun to see everyone again and walk around shopping for people~ I'm done with my mom, James bought something for Bri's birthday, we all went to Toys R Us and met up with Kaela and had fun there, and everything is good! All I have to do is buy online stuff and then I'm finished~~

Here's the thing that really got me, though, why I'm actually making this post. I've had a Dreamy Dollhouse coord hanging on my wall since we moved in and no opportunity to wear it out until just now. It's been a good while since I went in fully decked out lolita. I even got to wear my fuzzy bear hat from KawaiiGoods to keep my head warm! Anyway, that's beside the point. Aside from the usual things that happen when you wear lolita in public (the 'aww how cute' comments and the 'what the flying fuck' comments) there was one lady who really got to me.

I was buying a necklace from JCPenney for my mom after our group of friends sorta broke up to do shopping. The checkout line was taking forever and I have no idea why, but this lady from the other side of the counter called me over and said I could pay at the front of the customer service desk. When I went over to her, she said "I wanted to check you out because you look cute! Kinda like a wedding cake." That's the first time I've heard wedding cake, I've had bo-peep and snow white and stuff before, but not wedding cake. I thought it was nice. She asked me if I "always dressed fun like this" and I told her that I did, that it was sorta a Japanese fashion thing that I'd always liked. She smiled and just said, "Well, never stop doing what you're doing. It's beautiful. I'm fifty-five years old and I have dressed and been this way my whole life. Just never let people get you down, you look really cute."

I don't know why, but it just made me so happy and inspired and also really sad. She rung up my necklace and wished me a merry christmas and James and I left the store, but I don't think I'll ever forget what she said. I think all lolitas need to hear something like that, it makes you feel like you're glowing almost. Aside from the weird stuff we get called, aside from the people who laugh at you, even aside from the people who gush over your outfit, it just really sinks into you when you get a comment as genuine and heartfelt as that one. I want to buy that lady an Innocent World handbag or something, I don't even know. I hope she's happy and has a good holiday season. <3
