This post comes from a piece of a conversation I had with Bonnie a couple of days ago. We both sort of ranted about this for a while. c:
I hate it when people label anything they own "indie", or when I look at a song's genre and see that the genre is labeled "indie". This pisses me off to no end, because I've seen some labeled that way so that they'd get more people listening to it just because they think it's cooler to listen to something "independent and hip" than something "mainstream"- which, why does it matter? Why does it matter if the music you like is mainstream or underground? Would you really say that you hated a mainstream artist you really liked just to sound cooler?
It seems like a sad situation, to have to lie about liking so-and-so because they have more than a million hits on youtube because it isn't cool to like music that everyone besides you listens to. How does that make any sense anyway?
