listen to me this time, for srs.

Using options as simple as "I forgot my password" and email security questions, I got into my sister's facebook account today. I asked her to blur my face out in a few photos she had but she wouldn't listen, and told me that I wouldn't be able to get in. Being the ass that I am, of course I had to take her up on it and be like YEAH I CAN. At first I was like, yeah, I probably won't be able to do this. I know nothing about hacking and I was going to ask someone (after I googled how to do it, some remote installation something whatever. I don't even know the first thing about this) but it sort of dawned on me that anyone who knows you well enough can probably open your email up and change the password.

Think about it for a second. When you create an email, you add a backup email (usually, an old and unchanged one) and a security question that will be asked if you forget your password. Sure, you can put a weird joke answer on the new one, but what about the old one? How long ago did you make that? It completely slipped my mind, for one. I looked at my own hotmail account, and my password on there can only be recovered through my old email. On my old email, the question was "who was your favorite teacher?" Holy shit. Anyone who's known me for the past four years would know it was Quinn, he practically dragged me all through high school. Anyone could have guessed that, and changed my password for two email accounts, my Live messenger, AIM, Blogger, Tumblr, Flickr, Steam, freaking everything. Everything I have an account on could have just been gone if any of my friends ended up not liking me enough to do that. It scared the shit out of me.

Needless to say I changed all of it and erased everything. I know people can still get passwords through fancy hacking and phishing and remote whatever, but think about how people around you could get in just as easily. In fact, even more easily than someone who didn't know you. Even though I did a dickish thing today (hey, at least I asked first), I want all my friends to be safe... Only you should know the information that pertains to your password and password recovery. Like, not even stuff you tell to your best friends. That is some scary shit.

ASKDASJDLASJDSAD THIS FANFIC IS COMING OUT GREAT IN OTHER NEWS <3333
